The train job was a pretty okay episode. The part I liked the most was at the very end when the sheriff and the captain meet once more just as the medicines are being returned. The sheriff was hoodwinked by the captain and Zoe and yet realizes the predicament they were in. He said something to the effect of taking any job available in a hard time and yet presented with a choice when all the facts are made known. Malcolm in good grace replies saying there never was any choice, implying that he would always do the right thing at any cost.
The really cool thing is that despite their diametric roles, Malcolm as a thief and the sheriff as the enforcer of law, they share some striking similarities. The sheriff and Malcolm both play by the rules of no harm no foul. They understand that in uncertain times judgment can often be clouded. In the end the decision the individual takes defines his character. This commonality is a sign that the secessionist sentiment may be well founded and with a cause. The Alliance however clearly sees itself as a disparate entity. It cannot identify with the people it supposedly serves because it sees itself as superior.
At any rate, the captain made the right choice. The kids got the medicines. The sheriff was happy and discontent towards the alliance made stronger. The guy with the creepy knife met his end and with that I shall conclude this blog.
I just want to say that if everyone can choose to do the right thing, there wouldn't be any crimes any more. Or maybe some people think the "right thing" is crime ):
ReplyDeleteMal and the captain seem to be two men stuck in a situation they don't like. Rather than give up, they find a way to stay alive.
